About Me

My photo
Lauren Kay Johnson
Raised in a military family, I served as an Air Force public affairs officer and Department of Defense journalist, deploying to the Republic of Mali and Afghanistan. Post-military, I earned my MFA in creative writing from Emerson College in Boston. I have studied at the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts and the Bread Loaf Writers’ Conference. lectured around the country, and had work featured in publications including The Washington Post, The Atlantic, Glamour, and several anthologies. My memoir, forthcoming in spring 2023, chronicles my coming-of-age against the backdrop of war—beginning with my mother's Army career and deployment in support of Operation Desert Storm when I was seven years old, and later with my own service in Afghanistan.
